Live cams

Live aurora cams

Point a browser at the sky over the Arctic. These are public, always-on webcams run by observatories, aurora guides and universities — pointed north from under the auroral oval. When a storm is running and the sky is clear, you can watch the lights move in real time.

The best time to look

Aurora only shows on a dark, clear sky — roughly local night, and best between about 10pm and 2am at the camera's location.

In daylight, under the midnight sun of high summer, or in thick cloud, a stream will show nothing but a bright or blank sky — and some cameras simply switch off outside their season. That is normal: an empty cam is telling you the same thing your own window would.
