Privacy policy
This is a small site run by one person. It sets no cookies, has no accounts and no adverts. The only personal data it holds is what you type into the aurora alerts form — and you can have it deleted in one click, at any time.
Who is responsible
Is Aurora Visible is run by Teymur as an individual, not a company. For data protection purposes that makes me the data controller.
You can reach me at teymurnasir@gmail.com about anything on this page, including a request to see or delete your data.
What this site collects
If you sign up for aurora alerts: your email address, the coordinates of the place you want watched, and the Kp threshold you chose. Nothing else — no name, no phone number, no payment details.
If you do not sign up for alerts, no personal data about you is stored at all. You can read every page on this site without giving me anything.
There are no user accounts and no passwords anywhere on this site, so there is no login to be breached.
Your location
The forecast needs to know roughly where you are. If you press “use my location”, your browser asks your permission first and the coordinates are used to calculate the forecast — they are not stored unless you then sign up for alerts for that place.
Your IP address is used for one purpose: limiting how many signup attempts can come from one place, so the form cannot be abused to send mail to strangers. That counter holds your IP for ten minutes and then deletes itself.
How long anything is kept
A confirmed alert subscription is kept until you unsubscribe. Every alert email carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and using it deletes the record — it is not flagged as inactive and kept.
If you start a signup and never confirm it, the half-finished record deletes itself after three days.
A note that you have already been sent a particular alert is kept for 48 hours, so a single storm does not email you repeatedly.
Who else handles it
Storage — Upstash, which hosts the database holding subscriptions.
Email delivery — Resend, which sends the confirmation and alert emails.
Hosting and analytics — Vercel, which serves the site and provides aggregate visitor statistics.
Weather and place names — Open-Meteo, which receives coordinates in order to return cloud cover and a place name. It is not told who you are.
Space weather — NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. No personal data reaches it; the site simply reads public forecasts.
Nobody else receives your data, and none of it is sold or used for advertising.
Cookies and analytics
This site sets no cookies at all. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.
Visitor numbers come from Vercel Analytics, which is cookieless: it counts page views in aggregate and does not build a profile of you or follow you to other sites.
A few things are remembered in your own browser's local storage so the site behaves sensibly — whether you ticked items off the packing checklist, and whether you dismissed a banner. That never leaves your device and I cannot read it.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links to tour operators, hotels and shops are affiliate links, marked as such. If you book something after following one, the merchant may pay me a commission at no extra cost to you.
Following one of those links takes you to another company's website, where their own privacy policy and cookies apply. I do not receive your booking details — only whether a booking happened.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to see the data held about you, correct it, have it deleted, receive a copy of it, or object to it being processed. Email teymurnasir@gmail.com and I will do it — there is very little data involved, so it is quick.
The legal basis for holding alert subscriptions is your consent, given when you submit the form and confirm it by email. You can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing.
If you think I have handled your data badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority.
Children
This site is not aimed at children and I do not knowingly hold data about anyone under 16. If you believe I do, email me and I will delete it.
Changes
If what the site does with data changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. There is no mailing list for policy updates, because the honest way to keep this current is to keep it short.
