Around the summer solstice the sun never sets across the aurora belt, so the sky never darkens — there is simply no northern-lights viewing in the far north in June, no matter how high the Kp index climbs. It is a myth worth busting: a midsummer trip to Tromsø or Lapland will not show you the lights.
What about the southern lights?
